Williams accuses Beshear of being "sophomorish"

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Republican Senate President David
Williams is accusing Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear of making a
"sophomorish" statement in a radio interview.
Williams said Beshear referred to state senators as "a bunch of
fat men" in an interview Thursday morning on WHAS-AM in
Louisville.
Williams, one of three GOP gubernatorial candidates, hopes to
run against Beshear in this year's general election. The two have
been in a protracted debate over how best to balance the state's
Medicaid budget.
Beshear made a reference in the WHAS interview that sounded
somewhat like "fat guys." But Beshear spokeswoman Kerri
Richardson said the governor didn't say "fat." Instead,
Richardson said Beshear had started to use the word "fellows,"
then switched to "guys" after uttering the first syllable.
Williams raised the issue while being interviewed later on WHAS.
