Former U.S. Army Green Beret & Letcher County Sheriff Has Died

A former U.S. Army Green Beret and Letcher County sheriff is dead.

Ben Taylor died Wednesday after a long battle with cancer. Taylor was one of the first Green Berets and served as a pallbearer during President John F. Kennedy's funeral in 1963. He was also one of the men responsible for starting the Letcher County Veteran's Memorial Museum in Whitesburg about four years ago.

No funeral arrangements are set, but he is expected to be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.

Ben Taylor was 79 years old.
