FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A judge hearing the divorce case of
Republican lieutenant gubernatorial candidate Richie Farmer has
ordered that an outside mediator try to help settle the matter.
In a brief hearing Tuesday, Franklin County Family Court Judge
Squire Williams ordered that mediation be scheduled within 30 days
for the agriculture commissioner and his wife, Rebecca.
In doing so, Williams declined to set a trial date, saying he
wants to give mediation a chance first.
Farmer's divorce case is unfolding as he runs a statewide
campaign as the running mate to Republican gubernatorial candidate
David Williams. Williams, the state senate president, is
challenging Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear in the November election.
Rebecca Farmer filed for divorce in April, saying the marriage
is irretrievably broken.
Neither of the Farmers attended the hearing in Frankfort.
