LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Steve Beshear visited with Kentucky
troops stationed in Afghanistan on Wednesday during a tour of U.S.
military bases in the Middle East.
Beshear and a bipartisan group of governors also made stops in
Iraq and Kuwait this week. Beshear said in a conference call with
reporters Wednesday that the group of governors from Nevada,
Tennessee and Utah will continue the tour on Thursday and return to
the U.S. on Friday.
The group flew to Kabul in the morning from Kuwait, then went
south to Kandahar and then on to Bagram.
A statement from Beshear's office says it is the first time a
sitting Kentucky governor has visited active war zones.
More than 9,600 Kentucky troops are currently deployed in
Afghanistan.
