For the past ten years, they've helped his family keep his memory alive.

Now, some personal items belonging to a Kentucky sailor, killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks, have become part of a special tribute.

Edward Thomas Earhart was killed when a hijacked jet slammed into the Pentagon.

On Wednesday, some of the Rowan County native's belongings became part of a new museum exhibit in Frankfort.

Earhart's family donated several of his personal items to the Kentucky Historical Society's museum.

"With the anniversary coming up, we had so much stuff. You get different things sitting in the house and you're thinking it would be so good if other people could see this stuff," Earhart's sister, Andrea Stauter said.

Part of Earhart's uniform is already on display at the museum.

The new items serve as an important part of the museum's 9/11 exhibit, which also includes a quilt honoring Casey County firefighters who went to Ground Zero the day after the attacks.

"It's an honor for us that the family wants to share the information," museum curator Bill Bright said.

The Earhart family is keeping some of his other belongings, including the Purple Heart he received.
