We now know half of the ballot for next month's special 30th District State Senate Election.
The seat was vacated by Lt. Governor Daniel Mongiardo.
Republican representatives met in Bell County Friday night and picked State Representative Brandon Smith of Hazard as their candidate. Smith says he's ready for the challenge.
"I think the years I've been in office, five as a commissioner, eight years in the House of Representatives, already having Perry, Leslie, Harlan Counties and putting together budgets over the last eight years, so I feel very capable and I feel very comfortable and we're in a crunch time. So knowing that, I'll be able to get my job done and make sure we don't lose any projects," Smith said.
Democrats will meet Saturday morning in Hazard to pick their candidate.
The 30th district covers Perry, Leslie, Harlan and Bell Counties.
The special election will be held February fifth.
