Kentucky unemployment rate increases to 9.7 percent

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Job losses in several sectors have pushed the state's unemployment rate to 9.7 percent for September.
The Kentucky Office of Employment and Training released the
latest unemployment figures on Friday showing a slight rise from
the 9.5 percent rate in August.
State labor market analyst Ashley Jones said six job sectors
reported declines in employment in September while five added
workers.
Manufacturing added 900 jobs in September, and the educational
and health services sector grew by 600.
The government sector reported the sharpest decline in
employment with 2,500 jobs lost for the month.
The state's leisure and hospitality sector decreased by 1,300
jobs, and other services, including repair and maintenance
businesses, lost 1,000.
Construction dipped by 700 jobs. The mining and logging sector
lost 200 jobs.
