Police Investigating Shooting In Leslie County

Police are investigating a shooting in Leslie County.

During the early evening hours on Saturday, Kentucky State Police received a 911 call of a possible gunshot wound victim on Middle Fork Road in the War Branch Community of Leslie County.

Police tell WYMT the caller advised that a subject came into the Asher’s Mini-Mart with a gunshot wound to his upper left arm.

The following is additional information from KSP released Monday:

EMS and Kentucky State Police arrived at the scene to find the victim Wayne Nantz of Leslie County had received injuries from an apparent gunshot. Nantz was transported to the Mary Breckenridge Hospital and later moved to Hazard ARH for treatment. Preliminary investigation indicates that Cameron Caldwell age 20 of War Branch had fired shots at the victim and 1 round had struck him in the arm.

Caldwell was arrested without incident and lodged in the Clay County Detention Center charged with Assault 2nd Degree. The incident is still under investigation.
