Nearly two weeks ago, a fire destroyed the Middlefork Baptist Mission in Leslie County. Now authorities are looking for suspects in the case after they determined the fire was set on purpose.
Authorities say someone set fire to the Middlefork Baptist Mission in Leslie County on February 13th.
"I was hoping it would just be faulty wiring," said Pastor Ronnie Melton.
Police say they are now looking for information in connection with the fire.
Pastor Ronnie Melton says nearby churches are offering support, but he says the fire at Middlefork Baptist Mission also has them on edge.
"It's got a lot of churches concerned about their own safety," Melton said.
Melton says he doesn't know if they'll rebuild or relocate.
Melton estimates the total cost of the fire is between six and eight thousand dollars. Members at Melton's other church, Muncy Creek Baptist, did not want to go on camera, but told us they don't understand how someone could set fire to a church.
"We've never heard of this in this community before somebody that would deliberately destroy churches," Melton said.
Police say they don't have any suspects.
Authorities say there is no evidence that suggests the fire was religiously or racially motivated.
