JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - The Johnson County Sheriff's Office teamed up early Thursday morning for what they are calling Operation Summer Surprise, going after 16 people they say were selling prescription pills.

They set out about 8:00 Thursday morning with intentions of arresting more than one dozen people on drug trafficking charges.

"For our local drug traffickers who choose to go down the wrong path," said Sheriff Dwayne Price.

Knocking on doors one by one by the afternoon 14 people were handcuffed and booked.

It is a move familiar to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, and the sheriff says these roundups are needed.

"We're just trying to get our message out to the public. We've got the community behind us in this. They're tickled to death that we're doing this. It gets these people off the streets," said Price.

This is the second roundup for Johnson County this year, putting a total of nearly 30 people behind bars which the sheriff says is helping curb a continuously growing drug epidemic.
