Kentucky State Fair kicks off Thursday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - You'll find no shortage of rides, animals, and unusual food as the Kentucky State Fair kicks off Thursday.

On Wednesday, fair workers and vendors put the finishing touches on exhibits and temporary structures at the fairgrounds in Louisville.

Inspectors also took a look at all the rides to make sure they're ready to go.

As for the food, the donut hamburger will be back at the fair this year, along with a new creation: chicken breast on a jelly donut.

One vendor will also be selling maple bacon sundaes. That consists of butter pecan ice cream, maple syrup, bacon, and whipped cream.

We're told one maple bacon sundae has around 800 calories.

Deep fried girl scout cookies will also be served at the fair.

Fair admission is $10 for adults and $6 for children.

The fair runs through August 26.

The gates at the fair open at 7 a.m. Thursday. The exhibit buildings will open at 9 a.m., and the thrillway will open at noon.
