Squirrel season opens Saturday in Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky's fall hunting season is starting with the opening of squirrel season.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources says the 193-day fall squirrel season begins Saturday. It will run through Nov. 9, then reopen from Nov. 12 to Feb. 28, 2013.

Ben Robinson, small game biologist for the department, says hunters will find plenty of squirrels but the population will be down in some regions.

Last season, a department survey found squirrel hunters were active in at least 76 Kentucky counties.
