Powerball sales drive up Kentucky Lottery profit

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The Kentucky Lottery Corp. has collected a jackpot of its own after the eight-week Powerball run that ended with two tickets in Missouri and Arizona hitting the $587.5 million prize this week.

The lottery said Friday that Powerball ticket sales between Oct. 6 and Wednesday totaled $22.5 million, including $5.5 million just on Wednesday. Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Finance Howard Kline said the run generated $9 million in profits for Kentucky.

The numbers also helped boost overall sales for the period from July through October to $270.1 million. The lottery said the amount is $19.1 million or 7.6 percent more than the same period last year but $4.2 million or 1.5 percent less than budgeted.

There were two other large Powerball runs during the period.
