Lexington bicycle shop having 'End of the World Sale'

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A store has found some humor in claims that the world is about to end.

Some people say the Mayan calendar predicts Doomsday will come December 21, 2012. That's a week from this Friday.

So Pedal The Planet, a bicycle shop on Richmond Road, put up a sign announcing its "End of the World Sale."

The sale ends, appropriately, on December 21.

The sign also asks customers, "Why not charge it?"

"It just seems like everybody's numb. There's so many sales, nobody even seems to care anymore," Mark Trimble, owner of Pedal The Planet, said. "And so we figured we'd try to do something a little funny."

Trimble tells WKYT he's seen a favorable reaction to the sign. He says most of the customers thought it was funny.
