Updated: Mon 7:07 PM, Oct 24, 2011

A 1983 murder in Hazard remains an unsolved cold case for police.

28 years ago today 20-year-old Debbie Eckles of Perry County was found stabbed to death.

Police say she was stabbed 12 times.

It happened on Turner Avenue in the Walkertown section of Hazard.

Police say their cold case file shows Eckles' boyfriend found her body in her home.

"We feel that there is someone out there that does know and does have information, and we're asking if they do that they please give us that information," said KSP Public Affairs Officer Tony Watts.

State police say the case is still under investigation, and they are waiting on leads.

This case is the only unsolved murder in the city limits of Hazard.
