Fireworks Safety Tips

The busiest day of the year for fire and emergency crews is the Fourth of July and there are steps you can take to make sure you have a safe and fun holiday.

Derick Hall, Hazard's Deputy Fire Chief, says fireworks should be left to the professionals, but if you're going to use them do not experiment. Hall says homemade fireworks are very dangerous and can cause serious injuries.

"Anything from small burns up too amputations from the explosions of these fireworks, and then you also stand the chance of setting your house on fire. Simply because of the area that we're in, everything's really close related," Hall said.

Hall says use legal fireworks and light them on concrete away from brush and buildings.
