SALYERSVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - A Veterans Day ceremony was held at Magoffin County High School, where veterans hope to inspire the next generation of soldiers.
Students gathered alongside veterans for what they call a day of reflection as they honor all those who served our country.
Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran, Jeremy Holbrook says, "If you took the oath you were ready to defend your country no matter what, some went to combat some did not. I myself reflect on times in combat, I reflect on losing friends and being away from home."
It is a day the Magoffin County High School alum says he is happy to spend with students who sit where he once sat.
Holbrook says, "They need to know why they get to come to school...I know as a teenager it might not seem like a freedom or something to be happy about, but without the soldier's sacrifices they wouldn't be able to come to this school."
Expressing that freedom is never free, in hopes of inspiring the next generation of soldiers.
"It is a revolving door, you've always got to have someone serving. Somebody has got to take my place," explains Holbrook.
Somebody like Magoffin County senior, Army National Guard Pfc. Joshua Gibson.
Gibson says, "I just felt once I was old enough, it was my turn to stand up and listen to the calling and serve our country as many before me have."
Together, Gibson and his classmates salute the men and women who served, for giving them the freedoms they have today.
