MILFORD, Texas (AP) - Residents of the North Texas town of Milford will remain out of their homes at least until Friday.
The town of 700 about 40 miles south of Dallas was evacuated today after a drilling crew punctured a gas pipeline, triggering an explosion. However, the Ellis County Sheriff's Office says no injuries have been reported.
Chevron, the pipeline's owner, requested a one and a-half mile evacuation zone around the site, and sheriff's deputies went door to door advising people to leave. Chevron has indicated it could take until Friday for the flare to burn itself out, allowing crews to repair the rupture in the line.
Flames could be seen shooting into the air Thursday afternoon and some vehicles at the worksite burned. A column of billowing black smoke could be seen from miles away.
