You no longer have to be 17 to donate blood in Kentucky.

According to a new state law, 16 year olds can give blood as long as they have parental consent.

The law went into effect at the end of July, but Monday was the first high school blood drive in eastern Kentucky with 16 year old donors.

It was at Shelby Valley High School.

The Kentucky Blood Center will host a drive at East Ridge High School Tuesday.
