Millions expected to travel this holiday weekend

LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) - Folks are hitting the roads traveling near and far to see family this extended holiday weekend.

Triple A officials expect that more than 40 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles during this holiday weekend.

From the Sunshine State to the Bluegrass State and everywhere in between, folks from all over stopped in London Wednesday to fill up

“We're traveling from Boca Raton, Florida and we're going up to Chicago to see the family for the holidays,” Charles Segler said.

Charles Segler says the 45 hour round trip in the car is worth it.

He says he wasn't going to let gas prices put the brakes on his holiday this year.

The holiday traffic is always heavier than normal, but many drivers said it isn't as bad as they predicted

Transportation officials say it's still important to be careful and understand that they need to share the road with other drivers.
