Students at Roy G. Eversole switched academic gears Wednesday morning, as they were tested physically instead of mentally

"I think it's fun and entertaining. Glad we got out of class kinda." middle school student, Trey Pollard says.

And although it was a day out of the classroom, the students still took part in learning

"We want our kids to be physically fit when they come to school. It's not just about academics, we want to prepare them for a better life so they will be able to make healthy choices." says Roy G. Eversole Principal, Vivian Carter.

More than four hundred students participated in a series of activities ranging from push-up's to grip strength.

"It was fun, it was kind of hard but it was really fun." says Zoe Pennington, a student at the school.

And that's the message officials hope children take with them. Exercising can be fun and can even be a little competitive for some.

"Last year I was the top in our grade, I was the fastest. I was like six minutes and twenty eight seconds running a mile so I hope I can win it this year too." Madison Campbell says.

However ARH officials believe positive competitiveness like that is a good thing

"It's good to bring a little competitiveness into this. The kids need to encourage each other and get involved in these activities." says Terry Feltner, with Hazard ARH Hospital.

Hopefully incorporating a healthier lifestyle into their every day lives.
