Police Search for Violent Shoplifter

Police say a man pulled a knife on two people and may have broken a woman's foot all over 25 dollars in merchandise. It happened at a Kroger in Corbin.

It started out as shoplifting, and then police say it became a robbery.

"You'll see him look for a minute, stop, turn around," said Corbin Police Captain Tim Helton.

Police say the shoplifter took a few hair care products and a BIC lighter, all worth less than 25 dollars. Then, police say, the man became violent.

"Pushed the loss prevention officer and pulled a knife, took a swipe at the employee," Helton said.

The suspect runs out of the store, the loss prevention officer close behind. Others in the store look to see what's going on, but seconds later as the man tries to run out, an unsuspecting shopper became a victim of crime.

"He physically ran over a 54 year old lady possibly breaking her foot," Helton said.

Police now say that woman possibly has a few broken toes. The shoplifter bent on getting away at all cost, is still on the loose. Police say shoplifters are getting more desperate.

Police estimate the man to be more than 6 feet tall, 400 pounds and they say he was seen leaving the parking lot in a mid 1980s red Reliant K. in Corbin.

Police say the man faces numerous charges including first degree robbery and 4th degree assault.
