WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Representative Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) has announced that the National Park Service has awarded $40,000 to the Breathitt County Fiscal Court for development of a natural habitat area viewing area at the Quicksand Elk Viewing Site.

“The Land and Water Conservation Fund grant program continues to develop and restore wildlife habitat and public facilities for children and adults to enjoy,” stated Rogers. “I am pleased to see these federal funds going to Breathitt County to expand our regional elk project and bring visitors and nature enthusiasts to southern and eastern Kentucky.”

The Land and Water Conservation Fund program provides matching grants to states and local governments for the acquisition and development of public outdoor recreation areas and facilities. The total cost of the project is $100,000.

Rogers works to provide funding to the Land and Water Conservation Fund in his role as a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee.
