Dispatchers Are Prepared For Many Medical Situations

Eastern Kentucky dispatchers are prepared for many medical emergencies, even before medics arrive at the scene.

Kentucky requires training for emergency dispatchers so they can assist with medical issues over the phone.

The Leslie County 9-1-1 supervisor says the training they receive is very important in helping the community.

"These dispatchers, they're state certified they have all the training necessary to do their job, now they go out of their way to do a lot more than just their jobs," Charles Pence said.

The state's call centers go through an annual training and have a hand-book on how to walk callers through emergency situations.

Pence says the state has required the dispatch medical training since 2002.
