Many Eastern Kentucky leaders say education is the key to the future of the region's economy.
Hundreds of business, education, and local government officials met at an economic summit in Hazard to discuss how they can work together to grow the economy. One college director says he needs to know what kinds of degrees businesses in this region are looking for.
"We are not going to be able to attract new economy businesses or help them expand, attract knowledged based workers, unless we can raise education levels and have more bachelors and masters degrees," said UCM Director Ron Daley.
Daley says they are already planning another summit for next year.
