A Pike County mother is sentenced to life in prison after she admitted in court she killed her own child.

Holly Lockard's family says she died last November, just a few days before her second birthday. Police say she was covered in bruises and broken bones and died from abuse. They believe her mother and step-father were responsible.

"I'm really sorry. I feel really bad for Holly's death and I take full responsibility for what I've done," said Holly's mother, Amber Robinson.

23 year old Amber Robinson pleaded guilty, and told the courtroom she alone killed Holly. She said she and her husband James got into a fight, he left, and she was upset.

"I had access to Xanaxes and took some with alcohol. I grabbed Holly for being mischevious and did not know at the time I hurt her so bad," Amber said.

She says Holly died a few days later. Her family was surprised to hear her confession in court.

"I am very shocked that Amber said she did this. I'm sure she had a hand on it in some ways, but not enough to plead guilty," said Nita Lester, Amber's Aunt.

Police say autopsy reports show Holly had been abused for months and not just once. Amber's family thinks James was the one who abused Holly because she was not his biological child. They say his daughter with Amber also lived in the home and was never harmed, but Amber says James had nothing to do with it.

"Maybe I'm an ignorant mother who made wrong choices and wrong decisions, but I'm not an evil person and I'm paying for this everyday of my life," Amber said.

The judge said she can pay with the rest of life in prison.

James Robinson is still charged with murder and pleaded not guilty. His trial is scheduled for next month.
