Barbourville City Council Considering Smoking Ban

Another Eastern Kentucky community could become smoke free.

The Barbourville City Council is considering an ordinance that would ban smoking in all buildings in the city. A resident pushing a ban presented Ashland's current ordinance to the council this week. A manager at Jack's Stop 'N Shop worries a ban could hurt business.

"We see a lot of tobacco products here and a lot of people like to come in and smoke and have a good time," James Warren said.

"I think they put their profits ahead of the health of their customers," John Sizemore said.

The Barbourville City Council will be holding a public forum in mid November to hear from residents on the issue. They'll be setting an exact date for that forum at a special meeting next week.
