Health Officials Raising Awareness Of Breast Cancer

Health officials in Johnson County say they have one of the highest cancer rates in the country, so they're trying to bring awareness to prevent it.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a group gathered Wednesday afternoon to discuss how they can reduce the number of deaths in Johnson County from the disease. They're working to make sure all women over the age of 40 know get a mammogram, saying it can save their life.

"One of the biggest strategies to prevent breast cancer which you can't stop it from happening, but you can stop it from killing," said Brenda Cockerman.

They also raffled off a painting to help a woman with breast cancer but no insurance. All of the money from the raffle will help pay her medical bills.
