Man Arrested After Police Find Stolen Drivers License

A Southern Kentucky man is arrested after police find him with dozens of other people's driver's licenses. Police say the man is the son of the Whitley County Circuit Clerk.

The only place where you can get one of these is your Circuit Court Clerk's office. Now the son of the clerk in Whitley County is in trouble with the law as police say more than 20 of these were found in his truck.

It started with a typical early morning traffic stop. Police pulled over the man driving a Ford pickup. Ryan Allen Brodecker was charged with DUI. His passenger, and the man who owns the truck, was charged with alcohol intoxication. That man, 20 year old Brett Barton, was also charged with what is called trafficking in stolen identities. Police say there were more than 20 driver's licenses in the truck. Some were out in the open, others were in a DVD case, and several were found in the center console.

Barton is the son of Whitley Circuit Court Clerk Gary Barton. Police say when they questioned Brett Barton at the scene and he wouldn't talk. Later at the police station, the officer says Barton told him he knew some, but not all of the people on the ID's.

Gary Barton would not talk about the case, because he says it is an open investigation.

Police say Barton was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center. He has since been released on bond.
