Authorities Puzzled By Uprooted Casket, Remains

State Police are calling it one of the most bizarre cases they've ever worked. They were contacted by a man saying there was a dead body in the woods near his home. What police didn't know was that the body is several decades old. Now police are trying to figure out how the corpse and casket got there.

State Police are searching every cemetery in Pike County, looking for a grave that's missing a body.

Police say a man in Kimper discovered a casket on his property. Police say it was open and had a female body inside, but they don't know who she is

Forensic anthropologists believe the body is more than 50 years old, leaving police with a lot of questions like why would someone dig her up and move her from her grave. Police say it doesn't appear anything is stolen from her casket. Police say the situation is mind boggling, and they've never seen anything like this before.

Police want to know who did this and why, but they also want to return her to what was supposed to be her final resting place. Police say they don't believe this is a Halloween prank, but they are considering that possibility because of the time of year. If you have any information or notice a grave dug up, call State Police at 606-433-7711.
