Soldiers marched through the Leatherwood community of Perry County this weekend and fought right in some resident's backyards!
Union and Confederate soldiers came to Perry County this weekend for the Fifth Annual Battle of Leatherwood Reenactment. The real battle took place on October 19, 1862 and this weekend is about the Civil War and much more.
"We have a lot of crafts people here and historians doing living history presentation, so any of our visitors can get a sense of what it was like to live in the 1860's in a rural Perry County," said Civil War Colonel Paul Taulbee.
"Just give them a really nice feeling to be able to come back to Eastern Kentucky and visit and spend time with friends and be able to enjoy themselves for a three day event," said President of the Leatherwood Reenactment Corp. Gary Begley.
The reenactment is held in Cornettsville every year on the fourth weekend in October.
