U.K. Student Injured After Small Explosion

A University of Kentucky student is sent to the hospital after a small explosion at a school lab.

A U.K. spokesperson says the student was sent to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for cuts and burns. She was listed in good condition Friday afternoon. Six others were sent to the hospital for precautionary observation, but have since been released.

The student has not been identified.

Police say the explosion happened when the woman was pouring acid into a waste container and came in contact with another substance.

Police say the explosion was in a lab in Anderson Hall at U.K. A U.K. spokesperson says the lab will remain closed while the investigation is going on but Anderson Hall reopened later Friday.
