WestCare Kentucky held it's second "Friend Raiser" Sunday in Pikeville for area residents to learn more about their programs. For those in attendance, it was a day which pleased the senses.
The "Friend Raiser" included the smells and tastes of a chili cook off and the sights and sounds of Miss Teenager United States Amanda Mason, an aspiring pop music artist. The focus of the night was to raise awareness about WestCare Kentucky, and the substance abuse centers and homeless shelter they help run.
"I think there's more community awareness about what we're trying to do as far as fighting the battle against substance abuse," said WestCare Kentucky Board Member Bill Baird.
"Abusing drugs and alcohol is one of the leading causes of teen death today, and I think teens really need to get the insight they are dangerous and deadly," said Amanda Mason, Miss Teenager United States.
