A leader in the Eastern Kentucky coal industry from Harlan County is being remembered this weekend.
Duane Bennet spent his life working with coal mines in Harlan and Bell County. The Harlan native passed away Thursday morning and now his funeral arrangements are set.
Visitation will begin Sunday at the Harlan Center beginning at 4:30 with Harlan Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
His funeral will be Monday at 10 o'clock at the Harlan Baptist Church with reverend Pete Rowe officiating. He will be buried at Resthaven Cemetery. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made at the Bank of Harlan for a charity that will be established in his honor.
Mr. Bennet was recognized by the Harlan County Chamber of Commerce last year, for his success as a Harlan County coal operator and for providing thousands of jobs to people in the area.
