Police Charge Suspect In Pharmacy Stand Off

LOGAN, W.Va. (AP) - Police have formally charged the man they say held six people hostage at a Logan County drug store.

Thirty-one-year-old Jeffrey Harvey from the Logan area is charged with six counts of taking hostages, four counts of endangerment with a firearm, and one count of armed robbery.

Harvey is expected to be released today from the Logan Regional Medical Center, where he's recovering from injuries suffered at Stollings Family Discount Pharmacy. According to police and witnesses, Harvey was overpowered by hostages, which ended Monday's stand-off.

Police say Harvey had two guns, and demanded prescription drugs. He was given a painkiller and anti-anxiety medication, which he ingested. A pharmacy technician who was held hostage said Harvey told the group he wanted to kill himself.
