Santa Pays Early Visit To Eastern Kentucky

SHELBIANA, Ky. (AP) - Santa Claus was making early visits to needy children in Appalacia Saturday morning.

The annual Santa Train delivered 15 tons of toys and candy to children in parts of Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. It's sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce in Kingsport, Tennessee and CSX Transportation.

The train rolled into Shelbiana, Kentucky, Saturday morning.

Merchants started the Santa Special train to show their appreciation to customers and help needy families around Christmas. The gifts are collected through community donations.
