The NAACP recently reactivated its Perry County Chapter and Saturday night, members held their first gala.
It included a dinner, a special dance presentation, and guest speakers from other Kentucky NAACP chapters. The group's focus is on education and housing, and Saturday night they honored three high school students from the area.
"As you continue your education, we going to look forward to you coming back to your community, or wherever you go in the state of Kentucky or the United States or the world, represent yourself because you know where you come from," said NAACP Vice President Jerome Bowles.
The Perry County Chapter hopes to double its size by next year, and make the gala an annual event.
