Man Fires Shots At Sheriff With Children In The Car

Some tense moments for a Southern Kentucky sheriff when someone opens fire on him. It happened late Saturday night in Whitley County.

Sheriff Lawrence Hodge went to a home on Long Bottom Road and found a woman hitting windows with a liquor bottle. He arrested her.

While he was talking to the homeowner, a car pulled in the driveway and started shooting. Sheriff Hodge chased the car to a dead-end road, called for back-up and waited for the suspect to come back out.
The suspect appeared about 20-minutes later and found a roadblock.

After a struggle to get the gun, deputies arrested the man. They were surprised to find two small children in the backseat of the car.

31-year old Jackie Lynn Sulfridge is charged with attempted murder on a police officer, wanton endangerment, and a host of other charges.

23-year old Ashley Sulfridge is charged with criminal trespassing, public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and narcotic possession. She was released from jail on Sunday.
