Several Harlan County residents walked right into jail Wednesday, but they weren't in any trouble.
County leaders showed off the county's brand new detention center, which can hold over 150 more inmates than the old jail. The new facility will also employ about 130 more people.
The county judge says having a new jail saves the county a lot of money.
"So we would've been paying an awful lot of money for our inmates to be served through other county jails. Also, we would've lost the employment of those who serve us in the jail," said Harlan County Judge Executive Joe Grieshop.
The new jail is expected to start housing inmates by January.
