Jones Asks Governor To Install Stop Light

FRANKFORT - Senator Ray Jones, D-Pikeville, today asked Governor Ernie Fletcher to install a stoplight at the intersection of KY 40 and KY 645 in Inez.

"There have already been 11 traffic-related deaths at this intersection," said Jones, who sent a letter to the Governor about the intersection. "We need to act before there's another tragedy."

A caution light currently hangs over the intersection. "Obviously it is inadequate," Jones said. "This intersection is heavily traveled and there are numerous trucks, including loaded coal trucks."

Jones commended Inez Mayor Richard Young and Police Chief Mitchell Williamson for petitioning the state for a stoplight. "It's a serious issue and I thought the Governor may be able to encourage transportation officials to act quickly," Jones said.

A spokesperson from the Governor’s office tells WYMT the request has been referred to the transportation cabinet for review.
