Some Laurel County Sheriff Office Employees Laid Off

Some Laurel County Sheriff's office employees are out of a job.

Sheriff Gene Hollon says he has to lay off two road deputies, five transportation officers and two part time deputies because there just isn't enough money in the budget.

Hollon says this decision is not related to the 2004 and 2005 audits in which the sheriff's office owes more than 80 thousand dollars. He says the layoffs are based on seniority and he says they will not have an impact on the community.

Hollen says he doesn't know if the incoming sheriff will rehire any of those laid off.
