Governor Ernie Fletcher ordered all flags at state office building to be lowered to half staff Sunday in honor of Private First Class Theodore M. West.
Officials at the Department of Defense say the twenty three year old died Wednesday while on combat patrol in Baghdad.
Flags will remain at half-staff throughout the state until sunset on the day of West's funeral.
Arrangements have not yet been made.
West is the 50th Kentuckian to die in the war in Iraq.
