Many military families are getting support this holiday season from their local Family Readiness Group. The groups provide support to both troops overseas and loved ones left at home. Now the oldest Family Readiness Group member in the nation is being honored right here in Eastern Kentucky.
Margie Duff is a Perry County resident and according to the Hazard National Guard, at 88 years young she's the oldest family readiness member in the U.S.
At the National Guard Armory in Hazard Sunday, Margie was honored. She was unable to attend so her grandson Jack Duff accepted her award.
"She'd send me care packages and she used to send the unit care packages and I know she'd show up for their meetings," Duff said.
Jack says his grandmother joined the family readiness group when she found out he was being sent over seas.
