Modern technology is making it a little easier to keep in touch with your loved ones.

That's certainly true for some eastern Kentucky soldiers who got to see a children's Christmas program and talk to family members Monday, thanks to that technology.

For Cathy Townsend, this Christmas just won't be the same without her husband, Sergeant David Townsend, who's fighting in Iraq.

"This is the first time, so it's going to be hard," Cathy Townsend said.

Thanks to teleconferencing, Cathy is getting to spend at least a few moments face to face with David.

"It was just exciting to hear his voice and being able to see him," Cathy said.

David Townsend coached basketball to many Meece Middle School students including his son D.J., who briefed his dad on how the team is doing.

Several other families got to visit with their loved ones through the live connection from Taji, Iraq.

"I don't have a web cam, so this was nice," Sarah May said.

Little Katelyn's Christmas visit with dad also happened to fall on her 2nd birthday.

Students then serenaded soldiers with a Christmas program, they normally wouldn't get to enjoy thousands of miles away from home.

A Christmas gift that will have to carry Cathy Townsend through the holidays, the first without her husband.
