An Eastern Kentucky school is put on lockdown...just one day after officials with the Kentucky Center for School Safety say violent acts in high schools are down. Police say a student at Jenkins Middle-High school made a verbal threat this morning. As a result, police searched the school.... which kept students in classrooms for an hour and a half. School officials say this was a necessary step to make sure the school is safe.
"Safety is our first and primary concern," says Harvey Tackett Jenkins Schools Safety Director. "Having the lockdown this morning is just the preventative step that our took in order to provide safety for the students and staff."
Tackett says classes resumed this afternoon and everything will be back to normal tomorrow.
