Soldier Has Heart Attack And Dies In Iraq

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Military officials are reporting that an
Army National Guard soldier from eastern Kentucky died of a heart
attack before going on patrol in Iraq.

Colonel Phil Miller said thirty-seven-year old Staff Sergeant
Thomas Clemons had a heart attack yesterday. Miller says health
screenings before Clemons was sent overseas indicate there was no
health condition that existed that prevented Clemons' deployment.

Clemons was a member of the Kentucky Army National Guard since
August, two-thousand and was deployed in March two-thousand-six to
Iraq.

Clemons is the 13th Kentucky Army National Guard soldier to die
in U-S military operations since September eleventh,
two-thousand-one.
