Police Say Trooper Was Hit While Turning Onto A Median

The Kentucky State Police trooper killed last night in a crash was said to be turning onto a median when another vehicle slammed into his.

Police say Trooper Jonathan Leonard was responding to a non-emergency call and was turning to meet another trooper on the median when the crash occurred.
The details of the accident are still under investigation and no citations have been issued.
The crash happened on U.S. 119 near the Sidney community around 6:20pm Tuesday.

Leonard died at the scene.

The driver of the other car, Eugene Sisco, Jr., 45, is listed in serious condition at UK Hospital.

Trooper Leonard is a three year veteran of the state police. He’s worked out of the Pikeville post his entire career.

"The loss of Trooper Leonard is tremendous and it permeates throughout the entire Kentucky State Police family," said KSP Commissioner Jack Adams. "We are all saddened beyond words. Our sympathy goes out to Trooper Leonard's family and I ask that you also keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

In the 58-year history of the Kentucky State Police, Trooper Leonard is the 24th Trooper to lose his life in the line of duty and is the first since Trooper Johnny Edrington was killed in Laurel County on December 21, 1988.
