Many people spent Christmas Day relaxing and enjoying time with family, but a few across Eastern Kentucky had to celebrate Christmas at work.

Police dispatchers were busy taking calls while Police officers were patrolling and firefighters were busy making runs. A handful of gas stations were just about the only stores open in some areas. Clerk Paula Blanton says Christmas had to come to her.

"My family came in today and brought my presents and I opened them here," Blanton said.

"It's hard. The kids don't want you to leave, but somebody has to be here in case somebody has an emergency," said Middlesboro Firefighter David Lewis.

Several firefighters had to come in at seven Christmas morning and work for twenty four straight hours.
