Police say they're investigating a homicide after the remains of a woman were discovered in Floyd County over the weekend.
Wednesday afternoon, state police searched the same area where more remains were found. Troopers say they spent much of the day combing the Right Beaver area in Floyd County where the human remains were found. Wednesday they retrieved more body parts which they say have been there for years.
State police sent the remains to the State Medical Examiners Office in Frankfort Wednesday afternoon in hopes of matching the remains with a missing person. Right now police are saying the body is a woman and they believe she was murdered.
"They have tentatively identified it as a while female adult. It's being considered a homicide at this point," said Trooper Don Trosper with the Kentucky State Police.
Police wouldn't show us exactly where the remains were found because they say it could hurt their investigation. Trooper Trosper says it could take up to a week to identify the remains. At this point they're waiting to see if there's a match to a missing person. From there, they will try to find out how this woman was killed and who is responsible.
