Letcher County residents who are behind on their 2005 property taxes may soon have to pay much more.
Letcher County Clerk Winston Meade says B & I Management Services of Lincoln, Nebraska paid more than one hundred thousand dollars for nearly two hundred delinquent property taxes in the county.
That means, property owners may have to pay double to have liens removed and if taxes are not paid, the land could be resold at a public auction.
Meade says the company plans to return in January to buy bills from 2001 to 2004.
Several other surrounding county clerks say they've also been contacted by the company.
These purchases are allowed by Kentucky state law.
